Graduation Party: Planning Check List
Celebrating your child's graduation can be exciting, but also expensive. Planning is the key to making this one of the most memorable days immaginable. Here is a simple "check-list" of things needed to make your party a success. 1) Budget - Before you can start the planning, you need to determine the amount of money you want to spend. If you are not careful, without a strict budget, you can create a financial hardship. It is hard to not get excited, and thus overspend without thinking. Before you can have a viable budget, you need to answer three key questions: ---Where will the graduation party be held? If this is at your house, the cost is considerably cheaper. If you rent a hall, or reserve a restaurant, the price jumps. ---Do I want to cook? One of the single biggest expenses is the food - especially if you get it catered. If you need to save money, often friends can help out with food preparation, saving you money while allowing you the time to enjoy the party. You also need to determine whether or not you want this as a "sit down" meal, or as a buffet. ---Should we provide entertainment? DJ's and bands are expensive, but can be a whole lot of fun depending on the location. I personally perfer no enterainment, so that friends and family can talk and enjoy each other. Determine your budget, and commit to staying within it! 2) Before the Event - Here are some things that need to be taken care of BEFORE the Graduation Party. _____ Invitations _____ Response Card and Envelopes (not needed for open house) _____ Directions Card - Direction to the party should be included in the invitation _____ Signage - all custom made signs should be ordered. _____ Guest Book _____ (optional) Large picture of Graduate, on easel, with large matte border (8"x10" photo with a 16"x20" frame leaving a large white border) Guest can sign and encourage graduate. _____ Make food arrangements _____ Order Party Supplies and Decorations _____ Order Cake _____ Order Party Favors _____ Rent any needed equipment (tables, chairs, china, etc..) _____ Take care of any needed landscaping and gardening issues - especially for an outside party. 3) The Day of the Event - - A great idea - Provide disposable cameras throughout the house with instructions attached to "take pictures". Encourage guests to use them liberally _____ Clean house (may want house professionally cleaned a day or two before) _____ Decorations _____ Food _____ Beverages _____ "Graduate Table" - with school pictures, annual, awards, trophies, etc... Also, provide a guest book. _____ Party Favors _____ Signage - Inside and Outside _____ Music _____ Gift Table - with a card basket _____ Tables - centerpieces, linens, plates, napkins, flatware, etc... _____ Bathroom signs (#1 question asked by guests, "where is the bathroom?") |
