Fantasy Baseball 2008 Top Sleepers

Winning your fantasy baseball league is dependent on you having the info "edge" over your opponent. The more "inside info" you have available, the greater the chance you have to win.

My winning strategy (I have finished first or second in my league the past 5 seasons - and it is HIGHLY competitive) involves targeting a number of later round sleepers that other managers would usually pass on. These are guys that will make or break your team - if you dont get them, someone else will!

Here are the top "sleeper" targets for the 2008 baseball season:
Hitters
1) Nathan McCloth, OF Pit - Looks like he will win the starting CF job in Pit, and bat leadoff. I have him ranked VERY high in my 5x5 league. He will get on base, score runs, and steal a few bases.

2) Kosuke Fukudome OF Chi - Batting 3rd, in a potent line-up, in a hitters park.... WOW! Dont miss on this one. A bit of a risk, but has a ton of potential.

3) Chris Young OF Ari - Will bat leadoff for a team that will contend for the penant this season. Not great speed, but does get on base and will score a lot of runs. Many will overlook him because of the "post-hype" effect.

4) Rick Ankiel OF Stl - I have him down for 35 home runs, and 110 RBI's. Could drop to very late in the draft - grab him if he is still lingering in the later rounds

5) Alex Gordon 1B / 3B - will be off a lot of Fantasy managers radar - take him early if you are in a 5x5 league - easily 20 homers and 20 SB. Massive talent!

Pitchers
1) Chad Billingsly LAD - This is his breakout year. Showed a TON at the end of last season, and I am expecting a continuation of that this season. Will end the season as one of the NL top 5 pitchers.

2) AJ Burnett TOR - Battled lots of injuries, comeback time, and an opportunity for him to finally earn his contract.

3) Brian Wilson SF - The Giants will not win many games this year, but even the worst of teams still win 60-70 - that is a lot of opportunities for Wilson to earn saves. I think many will look back on 2008 and comment on how surprised they were that Wilson got as many saves as he did.

4) Justin DUCHSCHERER Oak - will finish the year with 14 wins and about 160 strike outs. He will be a lot better than most anticipate.

5) Chuck James ATL - James finished the year a whole lot better than he started. I had him as a break out candidate last season, and went through some very frustrating months. I am looking for James to finally put it all together, and be one of keys to the Braves rotation this season.
